3. IISc top Indian institute in 2016 BRICS rankings

NEW DELHI: It has been a mixed bag for Indian education institutions in the 2016 edition of the QS World University Rankings for BRICS nations -Brazil, China, India, Russia, and South Africa released on Wednesday. While India expanded its base in the rankings with 17.6 per cent of the 250 universities from the country, its highest ranked university, the Indian Institute of Sciences, Bengaluru, fell one place from last year's rankings. Apart from that, six of the top 10 Indian universities in the rankings also lost positions. Also, India has one fewer university in the top 20 when compared to the 2015 rankings.


4. Government plans to train 10 lakh unemployed youth in 3 years

Over 10 lakh unemployed youth will be imparted skill training by technical institutions under the scheme 'PMKVY by Technical Institutions', according to officials in the HRD ministry. 

Over 10 lakh unemployed youth including school dropouts will be trained by engineering colleges to make them employable in the next three years, said the HRD ministry. According to the officials in the HRD ministry, the unemployed youth will be imparted skill training under the scheme 'PMKVY by Technical Institutions', which comes under the larger umbrella of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana.

6. 50000 government job vacancies to be filled up in Haryana soon

During a meeting with the 2013 batch of officers of Haryana Civil Services recently, the Chief Minister of Haryana said that the state would recruit in 50000 vacancies in various departments and ministries soon. He informed the media and officers present that the process for the same has already been started and soon there would be people taking over the roles for smooth functioning of the state affairs. He further stated that the vacancies that are presently active, should be filled with employees working on temporary basis on contract for an year in the different departments. He also suggested that the recruitment of contractual employees should get started as soon as possible.


7. After six rounds of counseling, 73 seats are still vacant for IIT admission

As many as 73 seats in the various Indian Institute of Technology has been left vacant this year, after the six rounds of counseling. Of the total 9660 seats in various engineering streams across the country in IITs, 73 seats (0.76%) could not find any takers even after the sixth round of counseling. The number is lesser than the vacant seats last year, which were 341. Last year, the IIT had conducted only two counseling rounds, while this year they increased it to six to fill all the seats.
