1. IIT-Kharagpur student offered Rs 91 lakh salary package

KOLKATA: A month away from final placements, IIT-Kharagpur students are being flooded with pre-placement offers with a 20 per cent increase this year. IIT officials said already around 125 students have been extended pre-placement offers and interviews, where most of the companies have increased the package offered by around 20 per cent as compared to the last batch. The highest offer made till date stands at a staggering Rs 91 lakh, they said.

Indiana University formally opened its gateway office in India to better engage with students and faculty from the country. The 3,700square-foot suite within the Gurgaon headquarters of a US nonprofit will host classes, pre-departure orientation sessions for new enrolees, conferences and other events. Set up in February 2013 in co-operation with the American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS), the facility is meant to enable the university to accelerate academic activities and partnerships throughout In dia. The office will be used for organising symposiums, workshops, long-distancelearning, lectures, working group meetings, alumni events, prospective student gatherings and more.�

New education policy from next year, says minister The government of India is likely to implement the new education policy (NEP) with effect from next year, Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani told a national daily. "We will start a new educational policy soon. Educational policy takes seven months to three years and politicians, bureaucrats and experts draw it up. But there is need to involve principals, teachers and students," she added. Irani was present at a valedictory function of the 21st Annual Sahodaya conference of CBSE at neary Nedumbassery. 


5. Rajasthan University's Vice Chancellor resigns

Rajasthan University's Vice Chancellor Dev Swaroop has resigned from the post because of difficulties in functioning and 'non-cooperation' from the state government. Swaroop met Rajasthan governor Kalyan Singh on Saturday to update him about the situation and offered his resignation, which was accepted by the Governor, according to PTI. One of the Raj Bhawan spokesperson said, "The governor accepted the resignation today".

6. 178 PhD Degrees Awarded by IIT-Delhi on its 45th Convocation

On the eve of its 45th Convocation on 1 November, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi offered 178 PhD, 935 postgraduate and 729 graduate degrees to its students. The degrees were awarded by famous Nobel Prize winner Physicist George F Smoot and he addressed the convocation for IIT.

The striking junior resident doctors (JRs) of Raipur Medical College finally to the threat of their names being struck off from the college rolls have called off their strike unconditionally, almost 10 days after they had struck work in pursuance to their demand of higher stipend.The state government had directed the college authorities to initiate the process for cancelation of the Post Graduate seats of the striking medicos, as they had failed to comply with the ultimatum served earlier to join work.
