1.Over 5,000 Magadh University staff unpaid for three months

GAYA: Over 5,000 Magadh University (MU) employees including 2,000 plus teachers of the university headquarters, 44 constituent and four deficit grant minority colleges of the university have not been paid salary for the last three months. The last time MU employees got salary was for the month of May, 2014. The worst victims of non-payment of salary are the Class IV employees including peons and laboratory boys who draw a meagre salary. If that was not enough, a sizeable number of employees working at the university headquarters, have to make an out-of-pocket expenditure of about Rs 1,000 a month to commute between Gaya town and their workplace located 15 km away.

2. HRD Minister asks IIMs to develop a framework for ranking management institutions

The Union Human Resource Development Minister, Smriti Zubin Irani addressed the IIMs' Conclave with Chairpersons and Directors of 13 Indian Institutes of Managements (IIMs), interaction focused on issues related to national development goals, admission process in IIMs, review of the institutes, National Ranking Framework for the management institutions, ICT and other pedagogical innovations and initiatives to scale up research in IIMs especially the socially relevant research as also to have greater impact on national policy implementation.

3.Move to waive MBBS cutoff for SC/ST students

PATNA: The controversy over 48 MBBS seats reserved for SC/ST candidates being left vacant for the session 2014-15 has been resolved. The health department has agreed to waive the condition of mandatory minimum qualifying marks to be obtained at the entrance examination for admission.

4. 88% crack IIT-JEE in their first attempt

MUMBAI: The entrance exam to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) has never had so many candidates who cracked the gruelling exam on the first attempt: 88% candidates qualified in the first shot this year. Last year, 69.6% of aspirants qualified after taking the IIT-JEE (advanced) for the first time. Another 27.2% had to take the test again before they could walk past the gates of the IITs. This year, merely 12% students qualified after taking the exam for the second time. Since the last two years, the IITs have only allowed candidates two attempts.

5.100% Placement at IIM Raipur with Highest Annual Salary of Rs. 38.5 Lakh

In scintillating news coming right from the den of a premiere management institution IIM Raipur, it has created a record by placing all of its students in the academic session of 2012-14. The students for the 2012-14 sessions are all placed by the companies as reported by a daily newspaper. There were many international offers that were made to the students and quite a few overseas companies took part in the placement procedure. The highest package that was offered to a student of the institute was 38.5 Lakh, which was from an international firm in Indonesia.

6. Delhi Teenagers grabs MS Office Specialist award for the year

It has been a great victory for Arjit Kansal, a 16 year old Delhi teenager, who succeeded in winning the 2014 Microsoft Office specialist world champion in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010, held in US. The award holds a tablet, $5000, a medal, trophy and a certificate.

9. CAG finds discrepancies in functioning of Bharathiyar University

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has found several discrepancies in the functioning of the Bharathiyar University, including failure to conduct inspections of affiliated colleges.In its report on the functioning of the university during 2008-13, the CAG has charged the institution with failure to conduct mandatory inspection of its affiliated colleges and distance education study centres.

10. President calls upon Universities to create environment for promoting entrepreneurship
The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee has said universities today need to become drivers of innovation. Their focus should be on collaborative relationships with industry and Government.Speaking on the occasion of 14th Convocation of University of Jammu, he said entrepreneurial activities in the universities could take various forms such as contract research, consultancy, patenting, licensing, spin outs, start-ups, incubating companies etc. It is essential that Universities create the right environment for promoting entrepreneurship amongst students as well as academicians.
