1. DPS Ghaziabad in top 8 CBSE schools

NEW DELHI: In the TOI report 'Only one NCR school in CBSE's top eight' published on Monday, the list inadvertently missed out Delhi Public School, Ghaziabad. With a 90% average aggregate, the school is in the joint eighth-position in the list of top eight schools in India with the highest average aggregate. The school's highest score is 98.6%. 58.5% students scored 90% and above in aggregate.

2. Centre to improve six UP medical colleges along the lines of AIIMS

Six government medical college hospitals in Uttar Pradesh are to be modernised and converted into super-speciality institutions along the lines of the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) under Phase 3 of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). Kanpur's Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial (GSVM) Medical College's upgrade is to be put on the fast track as it is servicing a huge population with no comparable facility anywhere in and around Kanpur, stated the Union Health Minister, Dr Harsh Vardhan.

4. 1.24 lakh engineering seats are vacant in UPTU colleges

LUCKNOW: Close to 1.24 lakh engineering seats in the state under the UP state entrance examination (UPSEE) counseling found no takers. Out of 1.47 lakh engineering seats in over 300 colleges in the state, only 23,000 candidates have confirmed admissions. Of the total seats, 97,000 were to be filled through counseling. Remaining seats were to be filled via direct admissions and JEE (Mains). A total of 1.38 lakh candidates had qualified the State Engineering Exam.

5. 70% of international engineering students in US from India, China

HOUSTON: Seventy per cent of international students studying engineering in the US are from China and India, according to a new report. "SEVIS by the Numbers," a quarterly report of international students studying in the US, was released yesterday by the student and exchange visitor program (SEVP), part of the US immigration and customs enforcement's (ICE) homeland security investigations (HSI).

6. Student bodies protest irregularities in LLB admission

SURAT: Student unions and youth associations of the city started an agitation on Tuesday to protest against the alleged irregularities in LLB admission at V T Choksi Law College (VTCLC) of Sarvajanik Education Society (SES).National Students Union of India (NSUI), Indian Youth Congress (IYC) and Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) started the protests.

7. 40% Hike in Student Apprentice Stipend, Announced by HRD Ministry

Giving good news to thousands of students who work as apprentices, the HRD ministry has decided to increase their stipend by 40%. The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has announced this raise in the stipend of apprentices to make an effort to improve employability of these students who get the stipend while continue learning. The last revision in the amount of stipend was done in 2011. The number of students who undergo apprenticeship every year is around one lakh where the students get placed in 10,000 companies in India. After completing their degree and diploma courses in technical education students from all over the country get placed in the companies for a training of one year.

9. Internship Scheme for Students by HRD Ministry

In an announcement, The Human Resource Development Ministry has declared that it would introduce a new Internship scheme for students which would be called MHRD Internship Scheme 2014. This internship scheme would be for Indian students who are pursuing their Graduation/ Post Graduation/ Research Studies from any recognized university/institute. The students would be provided with a chance to intern with various departments in Government dealing with the education domain.
Those students who are presently undergoing their Graduate/ Post Graduate degree or are working in a research programme in subjects like education, social science, science, humanities, management, engineering, ICT and Law from any recognized university/ institute are eligible to apply for the internship programme. The government has planned to start the first batch for its internship from October 1 with taking six students per batch.
