1. Private institutions welcome UGC order on new engineering colleges

COIMBATORE: Private engineering colleges have welcomed the direction of the University Grants Commission (UGC) which says that no new engineering colleges will be allowed to start in the coming academic year. With no more new seats and colleges to be permitted, existing institutions feel that they have a better chance to fill their seats. City colleges continue to struggle to fill seats forcing many such institutions to surrender their seats to the university.
College owners say that indiscriminate granting of permissions to start new institutions and increase seats in existing ones has caused this problem.

2. Anna University Announces Review Results Grade & Marks System

Chennai: Review Results - November 2013/ December 2013 / January 2014 (Grade System) and Review Results November 2013/ December 2013 (Mark System) is announced by Anna University. Anna University offers higher education in Engineering, Technology and allied Sciences relevant to the current and projected needs of the society. Besides promoting research and disseminating knowledge gained therefrom, it fosters cooperation between the academic and industrial communities. The University was formed by bringing together and integrating two well-known technical institutions in the city of Madras.

3. Sale of Prospectus begins at Punjab Agricultural University

LUDHIANA: The admission process for the academic session 2014-15 has commenced at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) with the sale of prospectus. The University has invited application forms from the candidates residing in Punjab and Union Territory of Chandigarh for admission to various undergraduate and masters programmes, and diploma course.
B S Sohal, Additional Director Communication, said that the application forms for undergraduate programmes (4-year) including B.Sc Agriculture (Honors.), B.Sc Biotechnology (Honors), BTech Food Technology, B.Sc (Honors) Home Science, B.Sc (Honors) Fashion Designing, B.Sc (Honors) Interior Design and B.Sc (Honors) Nutrition and Dietetics are available at PAU. He added that besides, the University is also offering B.Sc. Agri. (Hons.) 6-year and 5-year Integrated M.Sc (Hons.) in Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Microbiology, and Zoology programmes, the forms for which are available.

4. IIT-Delhi finds city's comfort zone

NEW DELHI: Extreme summers and winters in Delhi are clearly uncomfortable. But Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has calculated the percentage of hours when most Delhites may be finding the weather to be "comfortable". In a recent study, IIT's Centre for Atmospheric Sciences (CAS) has ranked five cities on the basis of "comfortable hours". Hyderabad has the highest comfortable hours, followed by Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai in the descending order.

5. Study tours in Tamil Nadu take school kids to Himalayas, Nasa

CHENNAI: It was the Vandalur zoo in the 1980s. Soon enough, it progressed to Kanyakumari and Ooty. Now, student excursions have crossed borders - and seas - to reach National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa), the American space agency.
Suresh Kumar of Class 12 is among a group of 35 people, including parents, who will go on a 10-day trip to Nasa, University of Florida and Epcot theme park on a package put together by Uniglobe Adyar Travel Bureau. "I am so excited. This is my first trip abroad. I am keen to pursue aeronautical studies in future. So, this will be an educative and entertaining tour," said Kumar.

6. BSNL to start technical varsity, offer engineering and management courses

NEW DELHI: State-run telecom major BSNL has started work on establishing a technical university that will offer engineering and management courses.
The PSU expects to approach All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) as well as University Grants Commission (UGC) for formal approval within next eight months.
"BSNL has sufficient infrastructure to meet AICTE guidelines for engineering and management education. We also have sufficient supporting staff to meet norms as laid down by UGC. Our staff is working on it. We should be able to send it for formal approval in 6-8 months," BSNL director (Consumer Mobility) Anupam Shrivastava said.

7. National Institute Of Homoeopathy Notified Admission for BHMS Degree Programme 2014

National Institute of Homoeopathy, Kolkata, affiliated to The West Bengal University of Health Sciences invites application from eligible Indian nationality candidates for the program BHMS for the academic year 2014-2015. 8. UGC NET June 2014: Dates Declared

University Grant Commission has announced the dates for National Eligibility Test 2014 (UGC NET 2014). The online application for UGC NET 2014 will be available on commission's website from 15 April 2014. The eligible candidates can apply before 5 May 2014. The UGC NET Exam 2014 is scheduled to be held on 29 June 2014 at various centres across the country. The qualified candidates are eligible for the award of Junior Research Fellowship and to pursue research in the subject of their post-graduation or in a related subject and are also eligible for Assistant Professor.

9. IIT Roorkee Notified Admisison to Postgraduate and Ph D Programmes 2014

Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee invites online Application for Admissions to various Postgraduate and Ph.D Programmes Session 2014-15. Interested Candidates may apply on or before 21 April 2014 on the institute website.

10. Himachal Pradesh Polytechnic Admission Test (PAT) 2014

Himachal Pradesh Takniki Shiksha Board, Dharmashala conduct Polytechnic Admission Test (PAT) for admission to three year diploma courses in state polytechnic colleges, for the academic year 2014. The non-Himachali Indian national candidates of other states can also compete with Himachali general category candidates for 15% seats of the total seats. It is mandatory for departmental candidates to appear in the test.
