How to Promote Online-Tutoring Profile?

by Vivek Singh | Feb 16, 2013

Traditionally, students/ parents had to visit and contact local tuition bureaus to hire a tutor as per their requirements. Now it's the online era. Most of the daily life activities has gone online as it's a cheaper and easy to use resource. Searching tutor online is not only cost effective but also it provides you wide verities of tutors, not only local tutors but also international tutors. Most of the online tutor portals work on the same basics. These are, tutors create their profile explaining skills, strength including subjects they can teach with an idea about per hour tutoring rate. Students visit these websites and choose the tutor based on their needs.

The popular online tutors search websites have listed thousands of tutors for same subjects and, even hundreds of them are from same location. In this case, it's important to take some major steps to make sure that your profile is on the top of student's search. As per my last five years' experience, these are top five tips which can help tutors to promote their profile and make it more visible online.

1. Frequently visit your profile and do changes: Most of the tutoring websites show the last login date and time of the profile owner. If you visit your profile frequently, it will make a good impression to the visitors that you are professional, active tutor and available for tutoring. Second, do the little changes to your profile regularly. The portal system takes the updated profiles as new profiles and fetch them on the top when a student conduct the tutor search.

2. Become the Facebook fan: Almost every online tutoring websites have their Facebook pages. Go to their pages and become a fan by clicking on like button. This will not only keep you updated with site's day to day announcements, but also give you a platform to input your thoughts about new style of learning or how to prepare for exams. Don't forget to like your own comment so that your friends would also know about your unique skill of teaching.

3. Use the profile link: Along with the online tutoring company, it's also tutors' responsibility to promote their profile as much as they can. They can use their profile link is their email signatures, add in their blogs or print it on their business card. The more your spread your profile, sooner you will get the tutoring jobs.

4. Use profile description area wisely: All of the online tutoring websites give you an opportunity to write about yourself in profile description area. Do not miss this opportunity. I have seen tutors writing meaningless one or two lines in this section that too in bad English with poor grammar. The best way is take some time, use MS word and write this description in at least 100 words. Read it again and again and make sure your English is correct and grammar is perfect.

5. Write blogs or articles: Most of the sites give tutors an opportunity to write blogs and articles. This is the best way to stay ahead of thousands of other tutors. Pick any filed you like most and at least 400 to 500 words long article. The article can be anything related to education. Best bet is writing about your tutoring subject and what and how can you deliver new ways to learning.

Internet users are increasing rapidly day by day and it's important to keep your pace along with the changes. I am sure if you are an online tutor and follow about tips, you will never be out of tutoring jobs.
