Hypertension : Reasons and remedies

Currently, Hypertension is a major problem which can be commonly seen in every second person. Learning about Hypertension is important. In this article, I am going to throw some light on this ever expanding problem based on my experience and knowledge.  As per my knowledge, a drug which is good for controlling the hypertension that is Renin inhibitor.
Renin inhibitors are a group of pharmaceutical drugs that are used primarily in treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). Direct renin inhibitors block the enzyme renin from triggering a process that helps regulate blood pressure. As the time passes, blood vessels relax and widen, making it easier for blood to flow through the vessels. Eventually, this lowers blood pressure.
These drugs inhibit the first and rate-limiting step of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS). Since the 1970s scientists have been trying to develop potent inhibitors with acceptable oral bioavailability. The process was difficult and took about three decades. The first and second generations faced problems like poor bioavailability and lack of potency. Finally the third generation was discovered. These compounds were non-peptide renin inhibitors, had acceptable oral bioavailability and were potent enough for clinical use. The first drug in this class was Aliskiren which received a marketing approval in 2007. As of January 2012, it is the only renin inhibitor in the market.
